How we calculate

At national level, income tax in 2026 goes from 9.5% up to 24.5% on income over €300,000; employee contributions are counted separately, as is any local tax. Spain's best-known inbound regime withholds 24% on employment pay up to €600,000 and 47% above that, for the year of arrival plus five more. Ordinary residents face a different picture: the general deduction for pension contributions is only €1,500 a year unless an employer plan raises it. Wealth is also taxed, through a regional tax and a national one above €3 million. At €270,000 gross, net falls to €161,895, or 60%; at €450,000, to €261,387, or 58%. On €130,000 the country ranks 21 of 35 for cash in hand, before any special regime. The sums assume: Madrid (the region sets part of the income tax). On safety, schools and health it scores 46 out of 100 among the countries covered. Next, in order, come 3 legal ways to cut the bill, the Special regime for impatriates (article 93, Beckham law) regime and what to check before you leave.

Limit : 47% above €600,000 of pay from one payer; year of the move plus five; Modelo 149 is due within six months of starting. Source

Who is tax resident in Spain?

Spending more than 183 days in the calendar year makes someone resident, and sporadic absences count unless residence elsewhere is proved with a foreign certificate. Having the main base of economic interests in Spain is an alternative test. A spouse and dependent minor children living in Spain create a rebuttable presumption.

The trap to know

Regional reliefs on wealth tax offer limited shelter. The national solidarity tax on large fortunes hits net assets above €3 million each 31 December, after crediting any wealth tax paid, so a low regional bill does not remove the charge.

Questions

How much is €130,000 after tax in Spain?

€82,286 a year, or €6,857 a month, for a single resident employee. Income tax comes to €43,580 and contributions to €4,134. At €270,000, the share you keep moves to 60%. Each month that leaves €6,857 of €10,833 gross. This amount ignores any scheme for people settling in.

What is the top income tax rate in Spain?

24.5% on the 2026 scale, above €300,000. At €130,000, each extra 1,000 leaves about €569 net. At €450,000 gross you would keep 58%. Nobody pays it on all their income, since the lower bands still apply to the first part of the salary.

What gross salary leaves €123,000 net a year in Spain?

About €201,600 gross a year, or €16,800 a month, for a single resident employee, with no special regime taken into account. Tax and contributions then take 39% of gross. A bonus or a benefit in kind can change the gross to negotiate in your contract.
