Who is tax resident in Denmark?

Moving to Denmark, or holding a home available year-round, can create full tax liability, and so can an uninterrupted stay of more than six months even without a home. A holiday stay of up to three consecutive months, or 180 days in any 12 months, does not. If another country also claims residence, the agency weighs where personal and financial interests are greatest.

The trap to know

Buying a Danish property does not itself create liability, but actually moving in does, and a home you can use all year can do so even while living elsewhere. Those facing a claim from two countries end up in a treaty test that depends on where personal and financial interests lie.

Questions

How much is DKK 1,000,000 after tax in Denmark?

DKK 596,893 a year, or DKK 49,741 a month, for a single resident employee. Income tax comes to DKK 322,014 and contributions to DKK 81,093. At DKK 2,000,000, the share you keep moves to 53%. Each month that leaves DKK 49,741 of DKK 83,333 gross. Regimes for new arrivals are not applied here.

What is the top income tax rate in Denmark?

32.0% on the 2026 scale, above DKK 2,592,700. At DKK 1,000,000, each extra 1,000 leaves about DKK 456 net. At DKK 3,300,000 gross you would keep 49%. It only hits what exceeds the threshold, the rest of the salary following the lower bands, so your average rate stays well below it.

About DKK 1,653,300 gross a year, or DKK 137,775 a month, for a single resident employee, with no special regime taken into account. Tax and contributions then take 46% of gross. In a negotiation, start from this gross and add whatever the employer pays separately in kind.
