How we calculate

Saudi Arabia has no individual income tax scheme, and pay earned only from employment in the Kingdom goes untaxed. Non-employment income is instead caught at entity or permanent establishment level, and non-residents without one face withholding on Saudi-source income. For foreign staff, the only social charge reported is a 2% occupational hazard contribution paid by the employer. At SAR 1,100,000 gross, net falls to SAR 1,100,000, or 100%; at SAR 1,900,000, to SAR 1,900,000, or 100%. On SAR 560,000 the country ranks 2 of 35 for cash in hand, before any special regime. The sums assume: Expatriate employee who is not a GCC national; the same across Saudi Arabia. On safety, schools and health it scores 9 out of 100 among the countries covered. The page then sets out 3 legal ways to cut the bill, the lack of an open regime for new arrivals and the trap to know before leaving.

Assumptions: Expatriate employee who is not a GCC national; the same across Saudi Arabia. Saudi and other GCC nationals pay GOSI contributions and are not modelled; the 2% GOSI occupational hazards charge for expatriates is paid by the employer, and the end-of-service award, business income and the tax owed to a home country are ignored.

Average salary in Saudi Arabia

We could not read a 2025 average salary for Saudi Arabia in the publications of its statistics authority, GASTAT, so this page shows none rather than an older or private figure.

Paying less, legally

Employment pay

Income earned solely from Saudi employment is not taxed, so there is no allowance to claim against it.

Social insurance for foreign staff

The 2% charge on basic salary plus housing, capped at SAR 45,000 a month, falls on the employer alone and is occupational hazard cover rather than a pension.

No annual property tax on a home

There are no property taxes as such. The white land tax of 2.5% a year targets vacant urban land zoned for residential or commercial use.

Who is tax resident in Saudi Arabia?

Two routes lead to residence: a permanent place of residence with at least 30 days in the Kingdom during the tax year, or at least 183 days there. Any part of a day counts as a full day, except for a person in transit between two points abroad.

The trap to know

The 30-day test is a low bar. A person with a permanent home in the Kingdom becomes resident after just 30 days, which can matter under a treaty or in another country that also claims them, and running a business rather than holding a job brings income into the taxable entity rules.

Questions

How much is SAR 560,000 after tax in Saudi Arabia?

SAR 560,000 a year, or SAR 46,667 a month, for a single resident employee. Income tax comes to SAR 0 and contributions to SAR 0. At SAR 1,100,000, the share you keep moves to 100%. Each month that leaves SAR 46,667 of SAR 46,667 gross. Regimes for new arrivals are not applied here.

What is the top income tax rate in Saudi Arabia?

0% on the 2026 scale, above SAR 0. At SAR 560,000, each extra 1,000 leaves about SAR 1,000 net. At SAR 1,900,000 gross you would keep 100%. It only hits what exceeds the threshold, the rest of the salary following the lower bands, so your average rate stays well below it.

What gross salary leaves SAR 840,000 net a year in Saudi Arabia?

About SAR 840,000 gross a year, or SAR 70,000 a month, for a single resident employee, with no special regime taken into account. Tax and contributions then take 0% of gross. In a negotiation, start from this gross and add whatever the employer pays separately in kind.

Is Saudi Arabia safe and expensive to live in?

The public figures on this page show 0.9 homicides per 100,000 people, a housing price level of 47.3 (world = 100) and a mean PISA score of 387. National averages: a district or a school can differ widely. Life expectancy stands at 79 years and fine particles at 73.5 µg/m³, as this page details below with its sources.
