In Dubai, the consumer price level is 68.8 against 100 in the United States in 2025, 31% below the United States, at rank 126 of 161 counting from the cheapest (World Bank). No current official figure for Dubai household spending or the Dubai consumer price index could be read: the statistics sites refused our requests, and the Dubai Land Department’s published rent index stops at November 2022, too old to use. Everything on this page therefore describes the whole United Arab Emirates, not Dubai alone, and rents must be checked on current listings. What prices hide in Dubai
Dubai has a reputation as a very expensive city, and national figures alone do not bear that out: the Emirates' level stays below the United Kingdom's (92.4) and Switzerland's (128.2). But these figures cover seven emirates, and a central Dubai rent is not in them as such. A 5% fee on rental value, paid by the tenant, comes on top in Dubai, and private school weighs heavily on an expat family's budget.

What does a tenant pay in Dubai on top of rent?
A housing fee of 5% of annual rental value, usually settled with the water and electricity bill. It partly offsets the absence of income tax, without changing the fact that the salary stays whole. Check the deposit, agency fees and how many cheques the landlord requires as well.
